Abstract:Osmylids are very rare ancient groups of Neuroptera which can serve as natural enemy resources and “living fossil” materials to explore insect evolution. However the systematic status of Osmylidae in Neuroptera has been in controversy which should be discussed in subsequent research. This paper presents the review of the taxonomy on Osmylidae, the discussion of their geographical distribution, the summary of the biology of Osmylidae and current advance on the fossil Osmylidae. At last, main problems in the research of the taxonomy on Osmylidae are pointed out to be paid special attention in the further studies and the application study should also be strengthened.
