Abstract:By working at the threshold active concentration, the characteristic behavioral reactions of the blackwinged subterranean termite Odontotermes formosanus Shiraki to extracts of trail pheromone components were analyzed in trailfollowing bioassays, including the effect of different testing substrates. Based on the results, a standard bioassay method was used to test the fractions from isocratic elution (22% EtOAc/nhexane) of pheromone extract on a silica gel column. Results show that two active peaks exist in the fractions, which indicate that the trail pheromone of O. formosanus consists of at least two components.
