Abstract:

[Objectives]  To determine the biotypes of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) found in the Tibet Autonomous Region, China[Methods]  Morphological characteristics of whiteflies were observed under a 3D digital microscope, and the biotype of whiteflies collected from Lhasa, Tibet, identified on the basis of variation in the molecular marker mtCO. [Results]  Analysis of variation in the mtCOImolecular marker shows that whiteflies collected in Tibet were of the Q biotype. [Conclusion]  The results of both morphological identification and molecular analysis show that the whiteflies collected in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, were of the Bemisia tabaci Q biotype. This is the first report of the Bemisia tabaci Q biotype from the Tibet Autonomous Region.
