Abstract:The Coleoptera are the most diverse of all insect orders and have high economic and ecological significance. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China, this paper has been reviewed the progress, problems and prospects, in Chinese beetle research since 1950 based on a comprehensive literature review and the authors’ own experience. Chinese beetle research can be divided into three different stages over the past 70 years. Beetle groups, published papers, new species and related authors are summarized. In addition, the achievements of Chinese beetle researchers and progress in applying molecular biology to research on Chinese beetles are reviewed.
