Abstract:
Blaps femoralis Fischer von Waldheim is a dominant soil beetle in Northern China. Its defensive secretion is normally used for defense and aggregation in the daily activities. The secretion is toxic and has been used in natural medicines for many years. Through combined gas chromatographymass spectroscopy technique (GC-MS), it showed that the defensive secretion contained 14 kinds of compound. Three kinds of compound with higher amount were identified as 2- methyl- p- benzoquinone, 1-tridecene, and 1-(2, 4- dimethylfuran-3- yl)- ethanone. Some of remaining compounds with relative amount were identified as p-benzoquinone, hydroquinone, 3, 5-dihydroxytoluene, and dodecanal. We also found that the defensive secretion had obvious antibacterial activity. This work established foundation for future intensive study of the natural products from the defensive gland of B. femoralis.
