Abstract:
Choice responses of skipper cheese adults, Piophila casei(L.), to five kinds of aromatic volatile including salicylaldehyde, methyl salicylate, phenylacetaldehyde, benzaldehyd, and cinnamyl alcohol at different concentration (1.0×10-6, 1.0×10-5, 1.0×10-4, 1.0×10-3 mL/mL) were conducted using Y_tube olfactometer in laboratory. The results showed that 1.0×10-6 and 1.0×10-5 mL/mL phenylacetaldehyde, 1.0×10-6 mL/mL Benzaldehyde, and 1.0×10-5 and 1.0×10-4 mL/mL salicylaldehyde showed significant attraction to both sexes of the fly. However, benzaldehyde, phenylacetaldehyde and salicylaldehyde at the concentration of 1.0×10-3 mL/mL showed significant repelling effect against female and male adults. Cinnamyl alcohol and methyl salicylate at all four concentrations showed repelling effect against the males. Methyl salicylate could attract females at the concentration of 1.0×10-6 mL/mL, but repel females at the concentrations from 1.0×10-5 to 1.0×10-3 mL/mL. Cinnamyl alcohol showed repelling effect against females at all concentrations. It revealed that these aromatics could attract adult flies at lower concentration but repel at higher concentration.
