Abstract:
Oviposition and hatching behavior of Reticulitermes chinensis Snyder were observed with the method of group rearing of several couples of dealate adults in laboratory. The results showed that R. chinensis displayed gregarious behavior, in which they oviposited and protected eggs together. The oviposition duration of 1 to 5 pairs dealate adult group were 9.00, 8.25, 8.17, 7.33, and 7.13 d, respectively, and hatching duration were 36.67, 39.33, 31.33, 35.88, and 36.33 d, respectively. There were no significant differences between treatments. In the range of 1 to 4 pairs dealate adults, oviposition success rate of each group increased with the pairing number of original adults. The oviposition success rate of 4 to 5 pairs adults was significantly higher than that of 1 to 2 pairs adults (P<0.05).
