Abstract:

Wolbachia, which can manipulate reproduction of its hosts, is a widespread intracellular symbiont found in arthropods. Trichogramma ostriniae Pang et Chen is the dominant egg parasitoid of Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenee) in China. In this study, polymerase chain reaction assays of the 16S rDNA gene were conducted to reveal the prevalence of Wolbachia in fourteen geographical pulations of T. ostriniae in China. The results showed that all of the 1 412 T. ostriniae individuals were infected by Wolbachia. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that five populations (Liugou, Heze, Zhengzhou, Zhumadian and Changsha) had double infections with A-and BWolbachia. This is the first report that Wolbachia were distributed in the populations of T. ostriniae.
