With higher thermal hysteresis activity than teleost fish, insect antifreeze proteins (AFPs) can protect insect from freezing damage. Size-exclusive chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography and HPLC are often used to purify the insect AFPs, and ice affinity purification which has been used for fish antifreeze proteins has potential utilization for purification of insect AFPs. Insect  AFPs are often characterized by regular primary structure and binding to the ice crystal with their TXT motif structure.
