Abstract:Periplocoside NW (PNW) is one novel insecticidal compoound isolated from the root bark of Periploca sepium. The toxicity of PNW against some insect pests was investigated. Results showed that PNW had no obvious stomach poisoning activity to the third instar larvae of Agrotis ypsilon, but had strong stomach toxicity against third instar larvae of Plutella xylostell (LC50 =866.17mg·L-1), Mythimna separata (LC50=927.92 mg·L.-1) and Pieris rapae. (LC50= 1 107.08 mg·L.-1) after 24 hours. To the above insects species, PNW had no significant contact poisoning activity. In addition, PNW exhibited some lethal activity against Aphis gossypii (LC50 =1743.17 mg·L-1), Tetranychus cinnarinus (LC50=2 179.49 mg·L-1),the third instar Musca domestica larvae (LC50 =714.94 mg·L-1)and the third instar Culex pipiens pallens larvae (LC50=653.mg·L-1) after 24 hours.
