Bionomics of the leaf beatle Diorhabda tarsalis

Abstract:

Diorhabda tarsalis Weise is an important leaf_eating pest on licorice and its adults and larvae damage the young twigs. It has 3 generations each year in Baoding of Hebei Province and the edults, over winter in crack of soil, cave or loose layer under litters.The adult of over wintering generation emerges in the third ten days of April.Next year and incubates from the third ten dads of April to the first third of May,The Ovum is laid in the 10~15 mm loosen solum at the root of host plant.The larva of the first, second and third generations hatches in the mid-May, in the first ten days of July and in the first ten days of August respectively, all of which can cause serious damage to the host. The larvae undergo 3 instars. This paper describes its host plant, Iife history, development duration, living habits, and finally recommends to the control methods.
