Abstract:

The compatibility between different nests of Solenopsis invicta Buren was studied by putting individuals of different castes in one container. The results showed that when queens and larae from different nests were together, the eclosion rate of larvae (33.3%) was not significantly different with that (38.3%) when queens and larvae were from same nest. When workers and larvae from different nests were together, the eclosion rate of larvae (53.7%) was not significantly different with that (72.2%) when orkers and larvae were from same nest. When queens and workers from different nests were together, the survival rate of queens(45%) was not significantly different with that (61.7%) when queens and workers were from same nest. When female alates and workers from different nests were together, the survival rate of workers(86.7%) and female alates(22.2%) was significantly lower than those (99.4% and 88.9%) when female alates and workers were from same nest. Therefore, there was a little compatibility between castes from different nests, and colong fusion could happen in S. invicta.
