Abstract:

An insect pest on the camphor trees in Jiaxing area of Zhejiang Province was identified as Orthaga olivacea (Warren) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and its biological characteristics and occurrence were studied. The caterpillars of this species preferred to feed on camphor trees of 5 to 10 years old, and damaged tree leaves by aggregative feeding within nests formed by infested leaves. There were 2 generations a year in Jiaxing. The larva can be divided into 7 instars based on Dyar's law.
