Abstract:The oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel), a polyphagous pest invaded South Jiangsu Province in recent years, and seriously destroyed different species of fruits and vegetables. The experiment by using per-cup was set to determine the effects of hosts and fruit color and shape on the oviposition preference of oriental fruit fly in the laboratory. The result showed that the oviposition preference of B. dorsalis to different fruit hosts from high to low was orange, banana, mango, jujube, pomegranate, apple, peach, plum, grape and persimmon, and the preference to vegetables hosts from high to low was: towel gourd, cowpea, balsam pear, cucumber, brinjaul, pumpkin, green pepper and tomato. Female adults preferred the orange and green colors and rounded fruits to black and quadrate ones. It indicated that the odor, color and shape of host fruits significantly affected B. dorsalis oviposition preference.
