The adult development of Cephalcia pinivora and its chemical control

Abstract:Cephalcia pinivora Xiao et Zeng is a new species of genus Cephalcia, which attacked Chinese red pine, Pinus massoniana Lamb., and caused severe damage in Chongqing and Sichuang. This species had one generation per year. In late March, adults began to emergence, and the emergence of males is earlier than females. The life-span of adults can reach to 80 days. The unmated females could only produce male progeny by parthenogenesis. It was the most effective control period that 3~5 days after the peak period (early April) of adult emergence. The control efficacy reached over 80% with 2.5% deltamethrin aginist adults. The control efficacy reached over 86% with 3‰ Yulinbao DP against adults.
