Abstract:

The preliminary findings of biology and artificial rearing of the Platyscelis obvatus sp. nov. Ren was reported in this paper. It was known that P. obvatus completed one generation in three years and there was generation overlapping. Eggs were laid from early March to May, lasting for 20~45 days. Adults and larvae overwintered in soil. Artificial rearing was easily conducted with wheat bran as the main feed ingredients, in which adding yeast may obtain better results in the feeding of larvae. Adult fecundity was affected by the gender ratio significantly, higher amount of eggs with higher proportion of male. The growth of larvae was closely related to the population density, too high or too low unfavorable to the growth of the larvae.
