Abstract: In order to explore the reason of sterility of worker termites, the histological changes in ovarian development of workers and queens of Reticulitermes aculabialis Tsai et Hwang were observed with optics microscope. The results showed that compared with queens, there were only differentiation stage and growth stage in the oogenesis of workers, and not had yolk forming stage. The size of oocyte in these two stages between workers and queens was significantly different. In growth stage, there was a greater internal between oocytes and follicular cells in worker, and oocytes were atrophic. The oogenesis in workers was similar to the level of last nymph. These results would provide the histological evidence for the explanation of sterility of worker termite, and the these also showed that workers had potetial reproductive structure.
