Abstract: The microstructure of spermatogenic cells during spermatogenesis of Atractomor pha sinensis Bolivar was observed by the microscopic methods, and distribution of the soybean agglutinin (SBA) receptors during spermatogenesis was detected by us ing lectin-binding cytochemistry method. The results demonstrated that the proce ss of spermatogenesis in A. sinensis could be divided into 5 stages, includi ng t he spermospore proliferation stage, the primary spermatocyte stage, the secondar y spermatocyte stage, the spermateliosis stage and the spermiotiliosis stage. Du ring the whole process, great changes took place in size, morphology and chromos omes of the spermatogenic cells. The results of SBA labeling showed that the Gal NAc glycoconjugates first appeared at spermospore proliferation stage, and exper ienced obvious modification during the spermatocyte stage, but at the spermateli osis and the spermiotiliosis stage, the GalNAc glycoconjugates disappeared. Thes e results suggested that during the spermatogenesis of A. sinensis, the quan tity and location of the GalNAc glycoconjugates apparently changed, which may be res ponsible for the growth and differentiation of the spermatogenetic cells.
