Abstract:           The damage of Penthaleus major (Duges) to wheat showed significantly increasing trend. At present, the investigation of field population density was still primary method for monitoring and forecast. In order to understand the transfer habits of P. major on wheat plants, the field observation was carried out in 2008. The results showed that P. major had stronger mobility on wheat plants, by which it may change its habitat with the variation of environmental conditions. In the same day, the population density of P. major in the morning and evening was higher than that at noon. It decreased obviously on windy, rainy days and those with high temperature. The amount of P. major was the highest on the third to the fourth leaf position from top to bottom on wheat plants. P. major was distributed mostly on the back of leaves, and next on vaginas and the front of leaves
