Life history and occurrence of Corythucha ciliata in Shanghai

Abstract:          The life history and habits of Corythucha ciliata (Say) was observed in Shanghai, and its occurrence was investigated. There were five generations each year and overwintering adults could survive on trunks and branches in middle and late October in Shanghai. Adults began to damage in middle April and laid eggs at the end of April. The nymphae of first generation was found at the beginning of May, which duration was 17 to 18 d, and the whole generation duration was about 30 d. The generations overlapping was obvious between July and August. C. ciliata took place in all 11 districts in shanghai, and the four roads with highest damaging rate were West Longhua Road, Zhaojiabang Road, North People Road and West Yanan Road, where the damage rate was 100%. The three roads with highest pest indexes were North People Road of Songjiang District, West Yanan Road and South Shuicheng Road of Changning District, with the indexs 95.6%, 76.7% and 72.2%, respectively.
