Abstract:
The attractiveness to thrips of 10 types of colored sticky cards: yellow, blue, blue-deep, white, red, green, purple, gray and pink, was investigated in citrus orchards. Thrips significantly preferred blue and deep-blue cards to the other eight colors (P<0.01). Results on the effect of aspect on the trapping efficiency of blue cards indicated that significantly more thrips were trapped on sounthern cards than those on cards located to the west and north (P<0.05). Significantly more thrips were trapped by cards placed at 120 cm above ground level than those placed at 60, 180 and 240 cm. Significantly more thrips were trapped on cards spaced at intervals of 4 and 5 m than on cards spaced at intervals of 2 and 3 m. There was no significant difference in the number of thrips trapped in each of 5 consecutive 2-hour periods from 8 am to 6 pm. Plot experiments indicate that the control effect of blue sticky cards after 3, 6 and 12 days was 41.5%, 53.9% and 37.7% respectively.
