Abstract: In general, urban green space planning only considers the aesthetics of plants. However, different plant communities support different insect communities and ornamental insects, such as butterflies, crickets and fireflies, can enrich and add movement to an otherwise static ecological landscape. Based on an investigation of ornamental insects in the Chongming district and theoretical analysis of the relationships between insects and plants, an ornamental landscaping program incorporating ornamental insects is proposed for a new residential quarter in Chongming.
