Abstract: A threedimensional digital model of the digestive tract of Locusta migratoria manilansis (Meyen) was developed. Male adults were embedded in frozen embedding medium (OCT) and sliced into sections. Digital image information on each section was collected on a CCD and stored in a data set. Photoshop 7.0 and ImagePro Plus (IPP) software were used to segment, process and merge images of each section, and then to successfully produce a threedimensional reconstruction of digestive tract. The resultant threedimensional image can be freely rotated and observed from any angle. Anatomical parameters as length, area and volume can be obtained easily.
