Abstract: An investigation was made of the immune protein in Galleria mellonella L. that had been immunechallenged with toxic protein. A peptidoglycanrecognition protein, Gm21, in hemolymph of G.mellonella was identified by two dimensional (2\|D) electrophoresis, and the encoding gene was cloned by RTPCR and RACE. The full length cDNA has the complete open reading frame and encodes a protein of 211 amino acids. Sequence analysis indicated that the protein is a peptidoglycanrecognition protein (PGRP) \|Slike protein with potential amindase activity. The increased expression of Gm21 protein in immunechallenged G. mellonella and molecular cloning of the Gm21 gene are important techniques for further study of peptidoglycanrecognition proteins.
