Abstract:Arginine kinase (AK) is a phosphagen kinase that is widely distributed in the tissues of invertebrates. AK plays a critical role in energy metabolism and is directly associated with the major life activities of insects and other invertebrates. This paper summarizes advances in research on insect AKs, including tissue chemistry and structural characteristics, sequence features and expression of cDNA, physiological and biological functions, and discusses key areas for future research.
