We compared carbohydrate, lipid and protein levels in starved and honey-fed adults of Campoletis chlorideae Uchida. The results showed that feeding 10% honey solution had significant effects on the metabolite concentrations in C. chorideae. Both males and females that were provided different diets (honey solution, or water only) emerged with relatively high reserves of glycogen, body sugar, lipid and protein. Along with age growth, glycogen and body sugar reserves declined rapidly in individuals fed on water and were nearly depleted in the end in both sexes. By contrast, adult C. chlorideae fed on 10% honey solution maintained body sugar levels at least as high as that when emergence, and lived significantly longer than individuals fed on water. In addition, the glycogen levels were maintained at high levels. Due to honey solution comprising abundant fructose, both males and females fed on 10% honey solution showed high fructose levels. However, the cold anthrone tests failed to detect fructose within unfed C. chlorideae. Lipid levels declined in both diet treatments, but in water-fed individuals they declined more rapidly than honey-fed individuals. Protein levels in C. chlorideae fed on honey solution didn't change greatly, but they declined rapidly in post-emergence water-fed individuals and were reduced to the least in the end.
