Abstract: The orientation response of false-eye leafhoppers, Empoasca vitis Gothe to four tea essences and three host plants was tested in a T-shaped chamber. Leafhoppers were highly attracted to both green tea essence and Oolong tea essence ‘A’ but were repelled by Oolong tea essence ‘B’, commonly, known as Tieguanyin. Black tea essence neither attracted nor repelled hoppers. Soybean seedlings were less attractive to E. vitis than tea but Chinese cabbage was as attractive as tea.
