Abstract:The composition and characters of the grasshopper fauna in Yellow River wetland of Ningxia were studied. Forty-four species of grasshoppers were collected, which belong to 2 superfamilies, 8 families and 24 genera (50.57% of the grasshoppers known in Ningxia). The family Oedipodidae is the predominant group ( 12 genera and 15 species), occupying 34.09% of the total species. The family Arcypteridae ( 3 genera and 1.species) is the next, accounting for 25%. The faunal analysis shows that all species belong to Palaearctic species. In the zoogeographic regions of China, 17 distribution patterns can be catalogued. The Mengxin Reg ion and Mengxin-Qingzang Region are predominant types for these distribution patterns of Ningxia, and the endemic species of the former accounts for 38.64% ( 17 species) of the total species and the latter for 9.09% (4 species). By using DPS software, a cluster of grasshoppers in 1.administrative areas of Yellow River wetland in Ningxia was analyzed. The relationship between zoogeographical environments and its biodiversity was discussed.
