Abstract:Two kinds of color, buff and crimson, were shown in eggs of the cabbage beetle Colaphellus bowringi Baly. In the present study, incidence of diapause and fecundity of progeny in relation to egg color were investigated. At 25℃ and 28℃,no significant difference on the incidence of diapause was found between buff and crimson eggs under different photoperiods of L∶D(11∶13, 12∶12, 13∶11 a
nd 15∶9). However, at L∶D14∶10 the incidence of diapause of progeny from buff eggs (58.6% at 25℃; 33.9% at 28℃) was significantly higher than that from crimson eggs (45.4% at 25℃; 11.2% at 28℃). There was no significant difference on the pre_reproductive period and adult longevity between the progeny from buff and crimson egg. However, the mean total egg production and mean daily egg roduction per female of the progeny from buff egg (1 663 egg and 58.6 egg) were significantly higher than that from crimson egg (1 176 egg and 45.1 egg).
