Abstract: The mixture of sugar-acetic acid-ethanol (MSAE), which may trap and kill many kinds of pest, is a traditional nopollution method of pest control. However, the formulas of MSAE in use are indistinct, and hard to be repeated and extended. In this study field experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of series mixtures of MSAE for trapping Oriental fruit moth Grapholitha molesta (Busck) and smaller apple leaf roller Adoxophyes orana(Fisecher von ROslerstamm). The results showed that the MSAE (sugar∶acetic acid∶ethanol∶water was 3∶1∶3∶80) could trap more pests than the other formulas. It also showed that the higher amount of adult Oriental fruit moths trapped per day the smaller proportion of female adults was. When the total amount trapped was less than 10 moths per day, the proportion of females was 88.0%, whereas only 56.1% when the amount was more than 30.
