Abstract: The diversities of insect communities in six kinds of habitatwere surveyed in Chongming Island in different seasons, from Apirl to November in 2007. Species richness(S), Shannonweiner biodiversity index (H′), Pielou' eveness(E) and Similarity index (Cj) were adopted to analyze the insect diversity. Approximately 5 800 specimens were collected, which belong to 245 species, 110 familis and 13 orders. The results showed that the species richness in summer was the highest, following in spring and autumn. Shannonweiner biodiversity index (H′) ofthe forest in park in summer was the highest, and that of Xisha marsh in autumn was the lowest. Pielou' eveness (E) of Dongtan marsh in spring was the highest and that of Xisha marsh in autumn was the lowest. Similarity index (Cj) was the highest (0.276 9) between Dongtan marsh and Xisha mash, and was the lowest (0) between Shelter belt and Wheat field. It indicated that the diversity of insects wasassociated with many environmental factors.
