Abstract: Feigning death occurs in a wide range of animal groups. This antipreda
tor behavior enhances fitness of population in some species. The present paper r
eviewed the study history and current situations relevant to function, causation
, development and evolution of feigning death in Insecta. We proposed that feign
ing death has a nature of mimicry and gave some suggestions for the future resea
rch on feigning death.
