Beetles are the most species-rich group of insects on Earth, and have significant ecological and economic value. Based on a systematic review of the relevant literature and our own research experience, this paper comprehensively summarizes and analyzes progress in research on the taxonomy and species diversity of beetles, prominent researchers in this field and their contributions, representative achievements, and current problems impeding research on Chinese beetles. Prospects for future research are proposed.
