Geometric morphometric analysis of the tegmina of the genus Anabropsis in China

Abstract:[Aim] To investigate the value of the tegmen for taxonomic research on the genus Anabropsis. [Methods] The right tegmen veins and cells of thirteen Anabropsis species were quantitatively analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA), canonical variable analysis (CVA), discriminant analysis, and cluster analysis. [Results] (1) Principal component analysis showed that differences among the 13 species were mainly in the veins Sc, R, Rs, CuA and A. (2) Canonical variable analysis accurately distinguished all 13 species. (3) Discriminant analysis of five datasets (including the dataset combining wing morphometric data and cell measurement values) was the most discriminant; accuracy of discrimination based on tegmen measurement values was the lowest. (4) Except for Anabropsis (Pteranabropsis) maguanensis and Anabropsis (Pteranabropsis) carli, which clustered with Anabropsis (Carnabropsis), species from each subgenus clustered together, a result consistent with the classical morphological classification. [Conclusion] In summary, the morphological characteristics of the tegmen can serve as auxiliary evidence for the classification of Anabropsis.
