Abstract:

Thrips are significant pests of mangoes in China, where over 40 thrip species have been identified. Infestations can result in crop losses ranging from 10% to 42%, and in severe cases, even complete crop failure. In recent years, the damage caused by thrips to mango production in China has gradually increased with the expansion of mango plantations. Domestic and international scholars have made significant progress in research on the biological characteristics of thrips and methods for controlling these pests. However, existing research has mainly focused on specific technical aspects, or specific regions; there has been no systematic review and integration of species composition, outbreak frequency, and environmentally-friendly control technology systems, for mango thrips in China. This paper systematically reviews research on the occurrence, distribution, damage, bio-ecological characteristics, outbreak patterns, and environmentally-friendly prevention and control of mango thrips in China. It discusses the main issues and technical bottlenecks in current prevention and control practices with the aim of providing a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for studying outbreak patterns, and the prevention and control of mango thrips.
