Abstract: Simple and efficient specimen collection methods are required in insect species and diversity survey, especially when the integrity of the specimens are considered. A practical method of collecting phototaxis insects is present here first place 1 cm thick foam at the bottom of the collection bins, and trickledown appropriate amount of ethyl acetate, and cover the bottle with a piece of white cloth, and press the center of the white cloth until it reach 2~3 cm above the liquid at the bottom of the bins. Then tighten the white cloth outside the bins with rubber band, and connect the bins and the device to lure insect.Once phototoxic insects fall into the bottle, they will be asphyxiant by ethyl acetate, gradually becoming less active until dead. Compared with the previous methods, insect specimens are more integrated and easy operated. Also the safety, efficiency, simplicity, economy of the operation, have been improved.
