Abstract:The morphological characters, life cycle, and the situation of habitats of Timelaea maculate (Bremer et Gray) were described. This butterfly has 3 generations per year in Nanjing, China. It overwinters as third instar larvae in shrubs or on tree branches. First generation adults emerge in July to Mid-August, the second ones from September to October, and the third ones (overwinter generation) in Mid-May next year. The larva has five instars. The durations for egg, larva, and pupa were 5~6, 17~29, and 5~6 days respectively when reared in lab. Its main host plants are Celtis spp. including C. sinensis. Based on its habitats, the conservation suggestions were discussed.
