Effects of Beauveria bassiana on the fecundity and population parameters of Myzus persicae at different temperatures.

Abstract:The effects of Beauveria bassiana(Balsamo) Vuillemin infection on the fecundity and estimates of population parameters of the green peach aphids, Myzus persicae(Sulzer), were investigated. Six days old nymphs inoculated with conidial suspensions (10.6 conidia per mL) of B. bassiana were maintained at 18,21,25,and 28℃ as w.ell as the relative humidity(RH) of 85%.The results showed that in contrast to those uninoculated, the fecundity decreased by 43%,31%,53% and 61% for 10 days, the net reproductive rate(R 0) of the infected aphids dropped by 57%,73%,74% and 60%, and the intrinsic increase rate (r m) decreased by 30%,41%,36% and 22%.These results indicated that B. bassiana infection is of potential for suppression of M. persicae population increase, especially at temperature of 21℃ and 25℃.
