The functions of vitellogenin in the honeybee

Abstract： The vitellin not only provides nutrition for embryogenesis, but also p
lay important roles in other biological functions. In insects, the vitellin is c
onsidered to be the source of nutrition for the developing embryo, which provide
s a major nutrient reserve for yolk protein. The yolk protein precursor, vitello
genin (Vg)， is synthesized in the fat body, released into hemolymph, and target
ed to oocytes to be consumed throughout embryogenesis, that has been extensively
studied in insect physiology and biochemistry. This present paper described the
roles of vitellogenin during the reproduction of the honeybee, and the relation
ship between sociality and longevity in the honeybees.
