Abstract： The effect of Oecophylla smaragdina Fabricius on Parasaissetia nigra (Nietner) pop ulation dynamics was investigated in Xishuangbanna. The results showed that O. smaragdina may influence P. nigra population dynamics and its parasitic wa sps. Population size of P. nigra was significantly higher on the branches of trees with ants than those without ants, and mortality and amount of parasitic wasps were significantly lower on trees with ants than those without ants. It wa s suggested that the interaction of O. smaragdina and P. nigra should be applied in IPM, in which ants should be excluded to control P. nigra.
