Abstract:    The distribution and ultrastructure of sensilla on the antenna of nymphae, pupae and adults of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (western flower thrips) were observed under scanning electron microscope. The antennae contained four types of antennal sensilla, i.e. sensilla trichodea, sensilla basiconica (including six subtypes), sensilla Ushaped, and sensilla cheatica (including three subtypes). The length and the segment number of antenna, and the number and types of sensilla were significantly different in different developmental stages. The number and types were least in pupae, while it was highest in adults. The sensilla U-shaped was only found on adult antenna. There was difference in the length and the tip of the antennae, the L sensilla basiconca and sensilla cheatica between females and males.
