Abstract: Insect auditory organs play a crucial role in the lives of many insects. The main three types of auditory organs found in insects are auditory hairs, Johnston’s organ and tympanic organs. The structure and physiological function of these three types of auditory organs, and the evolution of hearing in insects is discussed.
