Thaumatotibia encarpa, a new pest of Phyllanthus emblica in China

Abstract: The cocoa husk borer, Thaumatotibia encarpa (Meyrick), was recorded for the first time in China, feeding on the fruits of Phyllanthus emblica L. in Hui’an County, Fujian Province. The gardens infested by this pest cover an area of about 2 300 hm2 and the estimated percentage of infested fruits ranged from 50% to 80%. The morphological characters,distribution,host and damage caused by of T. encarpa is described and some suggestions for its control are provided.
