Cochineal(Dactylopius coccus) production assess in different cultivation modes

Abstract： The relative merits of two cochineal (Dactylopius coccus Costa) production modes were surveyed and assessed in Lufeng county, Yunnan province. The results show that greenhouses in which three-year-old cactus plants were transplanted produced 32 kg of dry cochineal per 667 m2 per year whereas those in which cactus cladodes were hung produced 9 kg of dry cochineal per 667 m2 per year.
