Abstract:

The effects of temperature and photoperiod on the eclosion rhythm of Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée) were studied under

laboratory conditions. All of the eclosion peaks were found to appear in the scotophase, for night lengths from 8 h to 16 h.

The eclosion patterns were found to be in rhythm with the lightdark cycle, the rhythmicity being affected by the length of

scotophase and by temperature. The eclosion peak was earlier with a shorter scotophase, and later with a longer scotophase

and the peaks were later at a temperature of 22℃ than at 25℃. Freerun eclosion rhythms were found to be about 24 h at

both 22℃ and 25℃ and only appeared in constant darkness.
