Abstract:
The regulation of nest and colony environment of social insects showed steady state, which was named as social homeostasis by Emerson. The maintenance of pollen stores by honeybee is one of such case. Pollen foraging behavior was determined according to the pollen need of whole colony. Current studies were mainly focused on how honey bee workers obtained information about the pollen need of their colony and how they then regulate their behavior accordingly. This article reviewed the two major hypotheses for the assessment of pollen stores, direct assessment and indirect assessment.
