Abstract:

As the most crucial pollinating insect reared artificially and a highly social insect, honey bee plays a vital role in human socioeconomic systems. Wasps are important apicultural pests and the expansion of wasp farming in recent years has caused them to become an increasing threat to honey bee populations, and significant economic losses for beekeepers. Based on an extensive survey covering 24,913 honey bee colonies in 163 apiaries in 11 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, this study proposes three targeted countermeasures to reduce the harm caused by wasps to honey bees. 1. Establishing an administrative department to regulate wasp farming as soon as possible; 2. Explicitly prohibit the artificial release of wasps into the wild; 3. Developing novel technologies for wasp control.
