Abstract:Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus(BmNPV)is one of most serious disease to B. mori. The resistance of B. mori to BmNPV was genetic controlled by the interaction of major and minor genes. Breeding for resistant variety to BmNPV is the most effective and economical approach. With great advance in genomics and next generation sequencing technologies, the 8.5-fold sequence coverage of genome was assembled and a single-base pair resolution silkworm genetic variation map was constructed from 40 domesticated and wild silkworms which would provide molecular base and gene resources in the control of BmNPV and other traits. This paper reviews the progress of the genomics of BmNPV and silkworms and advance in breeding for resistant variety including traditional, molecular marker-assistant selection and transgenic breeding.
