Spatial distribution of female adults of Phenacoccus solenopsisTinsley (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) on Portulaca grandiflora

Abstract：The spatial distribution of the female adults of Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) onPortulaca grandiflora Hook was studied． The results show that the spatial distribution of P． solenopsis was highlyaggregative with reciprocal attraction among individuals． The basic component of distribution was the individual group; thelinear regression line had an equation of the form m* = 12. 4595 + 1. 2649 m，where m* is the mean crowding and m isthe density of female adults． Furthermore，the number of P． solenopsis on the upper or middle part of plants wassignificantly greater than on the lower part． Lastly，the theoretical sampling numbers of female adults of P． solenopsis weredetermined under different population densities allowing for sampling error．
